On the pirate Age of Empires 4 you can play online with a friend, taking part in all available online modes for free. Players can fight locally or engage in confrontations over the Internet online. As in previous parts of the cult strategic series, the gameplay is guided by historical accuracy and realism. The free online game allows you to choose a side from one of several factions to fight for world domination.

The gameplay is a real-time strategy game. There are 8 civilizations to choose from: the British, the Delhi Sultanate, the Chinese, the Mongols, the French, the Russians and the Holy Roman Empire. You can play as European powers, for example, England, or take control of Asian empires, be it China or the Delhi Sultanate. Mechanics allow you to extract resources, train troops, engage in city planning, fight on land or sea, and also develop an empire, moving from one century to another.

Online play and a single-player campaign are available, consisting of 4 unique scenarios: the Normans, the Hundred Years' War, the Rise of Moscow and the Mongol Empire. Age of Empires 4 contains a total of 35 missions, spanning the Dark Age to the Renaissance. In Age of Empires IV, you can take control of many historical figures, including Joan of Arc, Genghis Khan, Craig Mullins and many others. Resources are food, wood, stone and gold.

Up to 8 players can take part in multiplayer battles at the same time. PVP modes and PVE matches are available. All modes set different goals for participants. There is a training campaign to introduce newbies. Genre professionals can test their commander skills in a series of hardcore challenges.
