Alone in the Dark Illumination is a multiplayer survival horror game that you can play online with a friend, fighting each other for free on a pirate ship or competing with other players online online. The action takes place in the town of Lorwich, Virginia. As a result of the disaster, the city was empty, and the evil living in the mines came out. The plot is presented in notes and diaries, telling about the history of the city. The online game is aimed at destroying zombies together or fighting among themselves. Characters can be upgraded by increasing their rate of fire, reload, magical abilities, etc. Characters of Alone in the Dark Illumination: Theodore Carnby is a descendant of the protagonist of the previous parts, carrying 3 automatic weapons: AK-47, M4 and P90. Sarah Hartwood is a relative of Emily from previous games, fighting with a pistol and magical attacks; Gabriella Saunders - a new character who kills enemies with a pistol and a sawn-off shotgun; Father Henry is a priest with two twin guns that can be charged with electricity.

The gameplay is a shooting gallery for shooting numerous enemies. Evil spirits are very vulnerable to light and fire. There are bosses at the locations. Each of the three campaigns has 4 unique episodes. At the end of each scenario, an Obelisk appears. It produces huge hordes of enemies. The final boss is a powerful creature nicknamed Cthulhu.
