The possibility of free online play allows each participant to lead their own transport company. All players need to ensure that city transportation is carried out conveniently. You can create images of your avatars. Mechanics allow you to build roads by thinking through transport interchanges. Many add-ons have been released for Cities in Motion 2: The Modern Days, including Bus Mania, Trekking Trolleys, Wending Waterbuses, Metro Madness and others. The main task is to create thoughtful and profitable road junctions connecting city districts.

Buildings are divided into several types: residential buildings, places of work and recreational buildings. They can be combined with each other to create unique areas. You can use 5 types of transport: buses, trolleybuses, trams, metro and river ferry. A dynamic day/night system has been introduced. Each depot can contain from 8 to 20 units of transport. It is necessary to create schedules that allow you to regulate traffic intervals and configure traffic yourself.

City residents are divided into 6 classes: blue collar (workers), white collar (office workers), students, businessmen, retirees and tourists. Several campaigns are presented, differing in goals and tasks. A Sandbox mode is available, which does not set specific goals for players. You can build 6 cities: Central, Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western and Study City.
