A branching sequence of levels is presented. You can fight enemies in a random order, but some will have to be accessed as you progress. The network game is represented by a cooperative mode, where Mugman (mug man) joins the hero in order to together overcome all the enemies on his way. Enemies stand out with incredible strength and have several phases during battle. The possibility of free online play includes an unlimited number of restarts. At the same time, characters do not lose their weapons when they die. It is only important to memorize the timings and study the features of the bosses. In Cuphead, leveling up your abilities is simple.

The protagonist is able to parry attacks from opponents. Cuphead can also hit various objects coded in pink. A successful parry fills a special meter, allowing you to perform an enhanced attack or use a special ability. Levels are selected through a global map called the Outer World. There are several paths along which the player moves, finding his way to this or that enemy. There are hidden paths that provide access to secrets.
