Elsie is a side-scrolling action platformer with simplified roguelike elements. Each subsequent playthrough is different from the previous one. With any new run, levels are created randomly from hand-crafted parts. The order of loot also always changes. The locations themselves are non-linear. Before starting, you can add or remove modifiers to increase or decrease the difficulty accordingly. In the indie game you can run, jump, dash, bounce off walls, and shoot at opponents. The protagonist moves between rooms. They contain treasures, challenges, regular enemies and bosses. There are different classes with their own skills and arsenal. There is the ability to create a variety of builds.

Elsie is not only the name of the game, but also the name of the android. Dr. Gray discovered magitek technology, built a cyborg girl, and named the creation after her lost daughter. A relative disappeared during their joint experiments, which turned out to be failures. In addition to her disappearance, work on the Arclight Core project suddenly turned into a series of cataclysms and the appearance of spiers on the planet Ekis. To study them, cyborgs called Guardians were built. The plot begins with a robot attack on the Sapir shipyard, where all the research was carried out. As a result of the attack, the woman dies, and the mechanical girl she created goes on a journey. She wants to find out what happened and punish those responsible. The heroine also has to find out what happened to other androids.
