The gameplay centers on collecting loot, armor, potions, weapons, gold, etc. Free online play includes crafting, allowing you to collaborate on new tools and weapons.

The project is inspired by the mechanics of Titan Quest, from which it absorbed many elements and significantly improved them. Among them are physics, dismemberment, a task system and much more. Multiplayer allows you to create factions. By uniting in teams, you can confront entire clans of other players. Grim Dawn takes place in a dark fantasy world reminiscent of the Victorian era. The plot develops in the world of Cairn. The remnants of the human race are trying to survive against invaders from other worlds: the Chthonians and the Ethereals.

Of particular danger are the people themselves, who act as traitors to humanity: forbidden cults, bandits, savages and various animals living in the area. There are portals in the world that open the way to other worlds. The universe is in chaos, death and total xenophobia. Alien creatures have ethereal obelisks - creatures made of earth and flesh, whose purpose is to transform areas of the earth to make them unsuitable for human life.
