Jason Maxx begins with a case in 1999, after a man falls to his death under mysterious circumstances in Metro City. The investigation is carried out by a specific detective, recognizable by his leather jacket and constant cigarette. He will have to immerse himself in the life of a metropolis, where crime and absurdity often mix, creating unique difficulties. The city’s inhabitants, a collection of scoundrels and eccentrics, hold the keys to the mystery, but their testimony is often skewed by their own strange worldview.
The main gameplay is based on dialogues and exploring locations to collect evidence. The main mechanics in Jason Maxx focus on controlling the protagonist during dialogues and interrogations with unusual residents. Advancement in the plot occurs through a survey of the population to separate facts from misconceptions - a task complicated by the satirical tone of the entire project. This game is imbued with dark comedy, and the protagonist’s sarcastic remarks and visual gags become an integral part of the environment.
This approach makes the criminal investigation a parody of the noir genre, where danger is constantly hidden behind a layer of humor. The player will have to comb the environment, find evidence and interrogate suspects to reveal the main mystery of the fall of a man.
