Kemono Teatime invites the player to lead a cafe in the world of Melodius, which has become a refuge for visitors with animal ears. The main task is to prepare signature tea blends for a diverse clientele, where each guest has their own history and preferences. Communication with these characters is central to the narrative, as their visits are temporary and serve as a prelude to their eventual fate. Creating a peaceful atmosphere and serving a warm drink are the main goal in this story-driven simulator, balancing between hospitality and the theme of an inevitable ending.
Kemono Teatime’s tea brewing mechanics include 9 varieties of black tea, 15 types of herbs, and various secret ingredients to create unique drinks. Getting to know each visitor is key, as their personal stories and dialogue help to select the ingredients for the perfect treat. This process of listening, selecting ingredients, and serving forms the core game loop. Each well-prepared drink helps to establish a connection with guests during the short time they spend in the establishment, revealing new details about their life circumstances before they finally leave.
The entire structure of the project emphasizes the fleeting nature of each meeting within the walls of the establishment. Any acquaintance and subsequent farewell are presented as a unique and inimitable event, which focuses on the value of the moments spent together. The story explores themes of acceptance as the player helps the characters find peace before their inevitable end.
