Game Description
MISERY throws up to 15 players into a cooperative survival scenario in a nuclear disaster zone. The characters take on the roles of PMCs guarding a research institute in the Republic of Zaslavie before the conflict escalated into nuclear war. A siren sounds, signaling an incoming bomb and providing a 60-second window to grab supplies before retreating to the bunker. After the strike, the daily routine consists of forays into the procedurally generated Exclusion Zone to collect resources from ruined cities and abandoned military bases.
The world of MISERY poses many threats beyond radiation exposure. Players will encounter other survivors fighting for scarce supplies, mutated creatures with specific behaviors, and various anomalies. The origin of these phenomena is unknown; some can give an advantage while others will tear a person apart. Anomalous fields often hide artifacts—objects endowed with special properties. High levels of stress cause the character to hear whispers and experience visual distortions that affect the perception of the surroundings.
The bunker functions as a central base of operations and shelter. It can be expanded by building new rooms, installing generators, creating workbenches for crafting and growing food. It is necessary to monitor vital signs: characters can die from hunger, thirst, radiation sickness, or go crazy and attack their comrades. The bar in the institute’s basement serves as a hub for exchanging loot with the merchant after a raid. The established gameplay cycle involves foraying for prey during the day and returning to the hideout before nightfall.
