Once Upon A KATAMARI is a journey through the ages as a katamari ball rolls through the past and present, collecting a variety of items to restore the destroyed sky. The prince will have to visit a variety of time periods, from the Jurassic period to feudal Japan, performing bizarre tasks. The mission to restore the star field takes place in the backdrop of the Ice Age and the American frontier, where everything from prehistoric creatures to tumbleweeds must be collected to create new planets. The outcome of this space odyssey depends on the ability to gain enough mass to eventually devour even dinosaurs.
The culprit of the universal disorder was the King of All Space, who carelessly handled the mysterious scroll of history, which led to the destruction of the Earth and other celestial bodies. Now his son, the Prince, is tasked with correcting the mistake by traveling through time on a special ship, the S.S. Prince. Progress through the plot is complicated by the need to find crowns hidden in the levels, without which further time travel is impossible. As you progress through Once Upon A KATAMARI, the gameplay is enriched with new auxiliary tools, such as a magnet for attracting nearby objects or a rocket for temporary acceleration.
In addition to the main protagonist, 68 of his cousins and relatives are available to control, whose appearance can be changed by adjusting colors and facial expressions. The project also features a competitive multiplayer mode called KatamariBall, where up to four players can compete online or against computer opponents. The goal in this galactic sport is to roll the biggest ball, proving your superiority in the chaos of space.
