Operation Flashpoint: Red River can be played online for free with a friend, competing as a pirate in classic versus mode or fighting against enemies in co-op. Multiplayer is available online online. Operation Flashpoint: Red River is a realistic tactical first-person shooter. A story campaign is available, designed for single or co-op play, as well as online play.

The main actions of Operation Flashpoint: Red River take place in Tajikistan. There is a civil war in the country. US Marines are sent to the territory of a foreign power as peacekeepers. The plot is divided into three chapters. The squad consists of four people. Each participant occupies a specific position in the team. You must constantly interact with your teammates to successfully achieve your goals.

When playing alone, you will need to give commands to squad members. At the beginning, each participant chooses a fighter from four available classes: marksman, grenade launcher, machine gunner and scout. All soldiers have their own personal set of weapons and equipment. Also, each character has its own unique branch of skills and perks. As you gain experience, you can spend the accumulated points on new weapons, ammunition and abilities. You can fight in close combat and request air support.

Characters can die from one bullet if the injury is serious enough. The mentor is Sergeant Knox, who coordinates the actions of the heroes. Between missions you will have to study briefings and become familiar with the details of operations. There are a total of 10 missions in the campaign, the events of which take place in different parts of the country.
