The beginning of the 20th century was not easy in the Wild West in Red Dead Redemption. John Marston was previously a member of a gang of thugs, but decided to end his bloody occupation. The guy did not manage to start a quiet life - the hero was taken under the “guardianship” of government services, whose agents forced him to work for them. The character’s family was under their guns, and if they refused, John’s relatives would be killed. The protagonist must capture or kill his former “colleagues”.

In pursuit of his accomplices, Marston will go a long way from Western America to the heart of the state. The hero will travel on horseback and on foot, exploring in the process locations made in accordance with the selected period. The action starts in New Austin at a time when the heyday of the Wild West is waning. In connection with total industrialization, any lawlessness is punished. A steamship with the protagonist on board docks at the town of Blackwater.

During the journey, a lot of random events can happen to the protagonist: a woman runs up asking for help, but her accomplices are hiding and will kill the hero as they approach; the grocer asks to detain the robbers; a lonely traveler easily steals a horse. Here you have to interact with the environment, including to earn money. The game provides random missions, hunting to sell animal skins and organs, you can play dice, blackjack, and poker.

Part-time work as a watchman at night, searching for treasures, neutralizing criminals for money - there are many options. You can become a bandit, robbing caravans and kidnapping people, but you should be careful here - the shooter has a karma system, so such lawbreakers will be pursued by the authorities. Cash is used to purchase an arsenal, horses, medical supplies, and tickets for horse stimulants to upgrade the animal.

The creators of the game became innovators in using the weapon selection function - the “circular selector”. The gamer will be able to choose a weapon from the available copies much faster. The hero will receive an inventory with slots divided into groups: shotguns; revolvers and pistols; fists; lasso; knife or torch; sniper rifles; standard rifles; throwing weapons. The arsenal is represented by examples from the American Civil War period and semi-automatic options. The locations contain stationary weapons that can be found by completing certain tasks.
