Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is a tactical stealth action game set in the Japanese Edo era (1603-1868). A conspiracy led by Kage-sama is carried out against the new shogun, after he was able to unite the lands of Japan. In order not to destroy the world, the ruler instructs his henchman samurai named Mugen to track down Kage-sama and his organization. For these purposes, the hero enlists the support of four companions - masters of secrecy and penetration.

The gameplay consists of strategic battles with an emphasis on secretive mechanics and stealth passage. The main opponents are the guards patrolling the perimeter, whose corpses must be hidden from enemy eyes. As the game progresses, the heroes receive flintlock pistols, which are effective at eliminating enemies from a distance, but make a lot of noise. The game has 5 playable characters: Hayato is a ninja whose properties include killing at a distance. Can use shurikens and distract the enemy. She uses ninjato weapons. Yuki is a thief who sets traps. Calls the enemy with a flute. Weapon - dagger. Mugen - samurai who drinks sake to his enemies. She fights with a katana. Aiko is a spy who can disguise herself as a civilian. Uses a hairpin as a weapon. Takuma is an older sniper who eliminates enemies from a long distance and uses grenades. Cannot drag corpses. The protagonists fight three types of enemies: Regular guards - opponents who are easy to distract; Straw Hats - guards who do not leave their posts; Samurai - armored soldiers, the elimination of which requires the cooperative cooperation of the heroes.

There are civilians in the game who can alert security to your presence. Many missions require special conditions or put the player in unique situations: leaving footprints in the snow or using night time as an advantage.
