Starbound is a 2D sandbox that allows you to team up with a friend to play pirate online for free. You can compete online or locally. Actions take place on procedurally generated levels. The online game offers you to join the Alliance of Protectors - an association of seven races whose goal is to protect the galaxy from pirates and other space threats. As a result of an attack from enemies, the protagonist will have to leave the planet and go on a journey by ship, exploring the vastness of open space. Playable races in Starbound: Apexes are ape-like creatures similar to humans; Avians are a bird-like faction that lack wings; Floreans - a race of cannibal plants; Hylotls are amphibian-like creatures; People are earthlings who find themselves in the vastness of the galaxy; Glitches are robotic warriors from the Middle Ages; Novakids are powerful organisms created from solar energy.

There are a huge number of quests available that can be obtained at the main base - the space shuttle. Starbound has a teleport that allows you to quickly move between the ship and the surfaces of planets. The possibility of free online play includes completing the storyline in the company of friends. Players can teleport between ships or land together in orbit to mine resources, build bases, or fight opponents. You can do terraforming.

The continents are made up of unique biomes and presented with a unique art style. Since the coordinates of the continents are also randomly generated, you can give the coordinates to friends so that they can join the player, finding him in the wide expanses of the galaxy. Trees, weather, gravity, enemies, resources, materials, buildings and much more are randomly generated. Weapons can be found in special containers, which are also created randomly.
