You can go through the campaign alone. Network play allows you to gather three friends, where everyone chooses a race: elf, half-elf, dwarf or human, as well as one of 12 professions: assassin, mercenary, knight, black mage, etc. In The Dark Eye Book of Heroes, complete character customization is available, from appearance parameters to accessories. Locations are generated randomly. The location of loot, enemies, and much more also changes.

By defeating enemies, heroes accumulate experience points. They can be spent on new skills and abilities. It is also possible to improve existing skills.
