The plot centers on the dwarves, whose task is to reclaim Moria and restore the entire kingdom of Khazad-dum under their rule. The story tells about different dwarven clans after the death of Sauron.

The gameplay is focused on exploring mines, collecting resources, crafting and survival. Tunnels and rooms are generated procedurally. Resources come in the form of iron, gold, quartz, gems, and mithril from the three mountains. From them you can create useful tools, weapons, armor, various auxiliary structures and various devices for survival or assistance in completing The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria.

While exploring dungeons, you need to monitor the gnome’s temperature, sleep, nutrition, willpower and noise level. When the heroes reveal themselves, they are attacked by aggressive orcs, with whom they must engage in battle. You can build bases where unique items are created and strength is restored. Swords are considered rare items and are highlighted in blue. You can forge magical amulets with different properties. It is also necessary to restore abandoned forges and halls.
