The events take place in the Fourth Age of Middle-earth, after the events of The Lord of the Rings. This will require creating tools, weapons, armor, structures and resources from mined and collected materials. They can also build bases, forges, halls and mines to restore the glory of Moria.

The project supports both single-player and cooperative online multiplayer modes, in which up to eight participants can team up to explore and restore Moria.
