XCOM 2 is a turn-based tactical strategy in which you can fight with a friend on a pirate or play for free online with other participants. Co-op missions are available and the opportunity to arrange a full-scale battle over the Internet online with different players from all over the world. Compared to the first part, the gameplay has not changed much. The mechanics combine elements of TBS and RPG, and the possibility of free online play includes control of one of the presented races, which have unique abilities and battle tactics.

It is necessary to develop your Avenger base by installing new buildings, modules, etc. The main building is a rebuilt alien shuttle. You need to hire a group of operatives, completely customizing them, from the name of the hero to the choice of weapons. Each character has its own skill tree and unique characteristics. An innovation in XCOM 2 is the procedural generation of levels. Network play involves both co-op play and the ability to confront aliens alone. A new type of mission has been added, aimed at finding rare resources and artifacts.

Enemies not previously seen in the series are introduced. One of these types is the snake people, reminiscent of the race from the classic game, as well as the sectoids. The plot of XCOM 2 begins 20 years after the end of the first part. The aliens have defeated the earthlings, so people are regrouping to develop new tactics to combat the uninvited guests. To do this, they have to create an updated organization to protect against external threats. Players are invited to lead a top-secret operation to destroy the main base of aliens.
