XCOM: Enemy Within expands on the original game and still allows for online play. Here, while playing the game with a friend on a pirate, users will have access to new types of weapons, a combat system and a list of previously unavailable features. At the same time, new opponents will appear, who can only be defeated by making the right decisions on the battlefield. The essence of the project has not changed in relation to the original, and users will still have to fight back against hostile aliens, whose troops and formations are scattered throughout the Earth. And taking into account the possibility of playing together online on the Internet, tactical variability and chances of winning greatly increase.

The main innovation of “XCOM: The Enemy Within” was the presence of special nanorobots, which in the game are called Meld. With their help you can modify weapons, equipment and even living creatures. So, the soldiers will have new abilities, and instead of standard armor they will have an exoskeleton at their disposal, and at a certain stage it is possible to create mech soldiers altogether. To do this, it is necessary to build an appropriate laboratory, and the selected fighter’s limbs will be amputated, replacing them with cybernetic samples. Opponents are also not far behind, and they have a new type of unit (analogue of a mechanized fighter), as well as flying robots called “seekers”. They have an invisibility module and turn it off only during an attack.

There are no global changes in terms of gameplay. Network play also allows you to participate in operations together with other users, controlling the fighters of an elite squad. When it comes to gunfights, each attack is accompanied by a short animation. Depending on what equipment a particular fighter has access to, he can attack from different positions, being out of reach of some enemies. But if the operation is stalled, then the possibility of free online play allows you to save your progress and return to the episode later.
